Futura publicación sobre MAR de la UNESCO. Expresiones de interés hasta el 20 de febrero.

UNESCO is working with IAH and GRIPP to publish a UNESCO document with a working title Outstanding examples of sustainable and economic managed aquifer recharge.  There is an open call for contributions.  This has two stages.  The first is to quickly complete a small form (click on link below) expressing your interest by 20 February.  If you intend to submit a case study but don’t immediately have 15 minutes to do so, please just inform Yan Zheng, leader of the IAH-MAR Working Group on MAR for Sustainable Development, yan.zheng(a)sustc.edu.cn  naming your site, and we will follow up with you if you haven’t submitted the form in a week or two.  Either 10 or more years of successful operation or fewer years operation and extensive commissioning investigations, will be required for inclusion in this UNESCO document. In stage 2, selected case study authors will then be asked to produce a 3-4 page contribution by early May.   UNESCO aims to illustrate sustainable and economic benefits of MAR such as improvements in the security and quantity or quality of water supply, human health, or environment.

The publication is aimed at informing water resources managers and practitioners of 15-20 case studies of different types from different regions of the world, illustrating what these projects achieved and how they were established from concept to operation. There will be an overview and a synthesis of key messages, concerning sustainability, economics and project evolutions. It will provide an important milestone in the global recognition of MAR.

UNESCO have invited a working group to prepare the publication, led by Andrew Ross, Yan Zheng, Karen Villholth and Peter Dillon.  We are delighted to work with UNESCO on this initiative, and we hope that many who have established exemplary MAR projects will want to author a case study.

This is a great opportunity to showcase your sustainable and innovative MAR project on an international stage and for it to be recognized as an exemplary top tier project. In order to submit an EOI, please complete the nomination form included in the attached link by 20 February 2019. If you know a particularly suitable project, please pass this on to the relevant person who is in a position to provide the information.  Apologies if you get multiple copies.

The working group will consider all EOIs and select cases to be included in the publication. The results of this process will be communicated by 15 March and selected lead authors will be invited to prepare case study of 3-4 pages according to a specified format by 2 May. The working group will convene a meeting with lead authors of the case studies on 19 May in Madrid (immediately before ISMAR10) to discuss the draft case studies and the contents of the publication. A modest honorarium towards the cost of attending this meeting will be available to lead authors who have submitted case studies.  Following the Madrid meeting, all case study authors will be able to review the draft publication which is to be submitted to UNESCO by 30 October for publication.
